Meet Dheeraj Singh Moirangthem, the young shot-stopper who was one of the most standout performers for India in the Fifa Under-17 World Cup. A few years ago, Dheeraj used to be a school going sports lover who liked playing Badminton. It is said that both of his parents – Moirangthem Romit and Moirangthem Ongbi Usha were at first against him taking up football as a career. But everything changed for good later. He was a bright student and topper in his class while studying at a nearby Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya in Churachandpur, where he used to play badminton primarily as there were many students and the football ground was always crowded. Dheeraj Singh Moirangthem was 11 when he got his first major break with a Manipur local team in Kalyani. The tall goalie later was picked up for the AIFF Academy and subsequently the U-14 Indian team.
Dheeraj has also recently attracted the interest of English League One side and former Premier League champions Blackburn Rovers.
We wish this dashing young goalie all the best for the future!
