P.T. Usha

Meet P.T Usha the "Queen of Indian track and field" also nicknamed as Payyoli Express.

Usha came from a humble family background. Her father ran a small clothing store and they were always faced with financial difficulties. She came into the limelight while she was in class VII, where she made an entry into sub-district athletics and emerged as the champion of the district. Around then, the GV Raja Sports School was set up in Kerala and it introduced a sports division for girls. After that, there was no looking back for her. Usha has won 102 international medals and 1,000 plus awards at National & State-level meets. P.T Usha retired in the year 2000, with a promise to groom bright young talents in her sports school in Kerala called ‘Usha School of Athletics’.

We truly hope P.T. Usha's story continues to inspire the young athletes in India.
